Hydrastis acts primarily on the mucous membranes, relaxing them and producing copious thick, ropy, yellow secretions. The mucous secretions can be from the throat, stomach, uterus, urethra, genitals or lungs, or may be found in the urine or the stools.

There is great debility in the Hydrastis patient, with weakness, emaciation and prostration. There may be weak digestion with a sensation of emptiness in the stomach, which is not improved by eating. The patient feels worse after eating bread or vegetables. There may also be great constipation with a lack of urging to stool.

Hydrastis can prove effective in the treatment of cancer and cancerous states, particularly of the stomach, uterus, breasts, lips or skin, where pain is the principal symptom.

  • Chronic degenerative conditions, with loss of muscle tone and wasting
