From Sceptic to Believer: One Mother's Homeopathy Journey

Remedies Mentioned in This Episode

A Chance Encounter That Changed Everything

When Jasmin Hinton asked a colleague for a cold and flu tablet one day on a farm, she had no idea the answer would change the course of her family’s health. Her colleague, Shona McFox, handed her some homeopathic remedies instead. Jasmin was deeply sceptical, but the next day she was completely well, with no fever, no runny nose, and no lingering fatigue. That was her first introduction to homeopathy, and it stuck.

Jasmin’s story is shared in Episode 3 of the Homeopathy Hangout podcast, where she speaks with Eugénie Krüger about her journey from sceptic to confident, empowered mother, and the moments along the way that made her a believer.

A Fertility Journey Like No Other

When Jasmin and her husband Trent began struggling to conceive, they tried everything available to them over four years: acupuncture, IVF, specialists in Indonesia, nutritionists, and a complete lifestyle overhaul. Nothing worked. IVF resulted in the loss of a baby, and Jasmin describes the process as traumatic for both her body and her spirit.

It was Shona who encouraged Jasmin to see Eugénie, and Jasmin arrived at that first appointment both hopeful and sceptical in equal measure. What she did not expect was that the path forward would have nothing to do with a fertility protocol at all. Eugénie recognised that something deeper needed to be addressed first: a belief Jasmin had carried since her twenties that she would never be able to have children. Once the right remedy was found to work with that underlying emotional layer, and the physical trauma from IVF was also supported, everything shifted.

Three months after beginning homeopathic treatment, Jasmin discovered she was six weeks pregnant. She found out the day before a scheduled vaccine appointment, prompted by a friend’s quiet intuition to take a pregnancy test first. She had stopped tracking her cycles entirely and had no idea. Her son William was born healthy, and he recently celebrated his first birthday.

Building Confidence as a Homeopathic Parent

Since William’s birth, Jasmin has used homeopathy for almost everything: sleep difficulties, emotional upset when Trent travels for work, teething, colds, egg allergy exposures, bumps and scratches. She describes the learning curve honestly, saying that in the beginning she found it overwhelming when well-meaning people offered too many suggestions at once from too many different directions.

The turning point for her was getting a copy of Jane Owen’s handy reference booklet, a small, practical guide written by a Perth-based homeopath that covers common complaints and the remedies that match different symptom pictures. Once Jasmin had that booklet in hand, she felt equipped. She started spending time simply watching William, observing his specific symptoms, and matching what she saw to what the book described. That process of careful observation, she says, is one of the most valuable skills homeopathy has given her as a parent.

She also emphasises that using homeopathy well takes time and repetition. Jasmin has watched Eugénie’s introductory course around four times now, finding that different pieces of information land at different stages of her parenting journey. She encourages other mothers not to be discouraged early on, because it genuinely is a new skill, and like any skill, it deepens with practice.

Homeopathy and Conventional Medicine: Not an Either/Or Choice

One of the most practical insights from Jasmin’s story is her experience of learning to use homeopathy alongside conventional medicine rather than instead of it. During a period when William was hospitalised and the family stepped away from homeopathy for a time, they found themselves relying on repeated doses of Panadol and Nurofen without lasting relief. Eventually Jasmin decided to stop all of it for 24 hours and try homeopathics alone for teething. William settled quickly and responded well.

That experience reinforced something Eugénie speaks about regularly: that homeopathy and pharmaceutical medicine can work together. Homeopathic remedies have no contraindications, meaning they can be used alongside conventional medications. There are remedies that support liver function when pharmaceuticals are needed, remedies that help restore gut flora after a course of antibiotics, and remedies that can address reactions to certain medications. The goal is not to replace medical care but to give families an effective first line of response at home, with the clarity to know when professional care is also needed.

Grief, Separation, and the Power of Ignatia

Because Trent works fly-in fly-out, the family experiences regular cycles of separation and reunion. Jasmin noticed that William would mourn his father’s absence for up to a week each time Trent left. Since using a homeopathic prescription to support William through those transitions, that mourning period has shortened to around one to two days.

The remedy Ignatia, made from the St. Ignatius bean (spelled I-G-N-A-T-I-A), has become a staple in their home for grief and emotional adjustment. Jasmin describes its effect not as suppressing sadness but as bringing a settling feeling: a sense that everything is going to be okay, even while the difficult emotions are still present. Eugénie echoes this, sharing that when her own father passed away she used Ignatia regularly and found it never stopped her from feeling sad, but it did carry her through. Both the whole family and Trent himself now take it before he leaves, finding that it eases the transition for everyone.

Three Remedies Jasmin Cannot Live Without

When asked to name her top three remedies, Jasmin offered these:

  • Belladonna: Her go-to for fevers, sudden illness, and acute complaints that come on fast and intensely.
  • Ignatia: Used regularly in their household for grief, loss, emotional adjustment, and the strain of separation.
  • The Shift Work Remedy: A more recent addition for Jasmin and Trent, initially sourced for Trent’s schedule but now used by the whole family during periods of disrupted sleep and exhaustion. Jasmin says she cannot imagine life without it now.

What Jasmin Wants Other Mothers to Know

Jasmin’s final message is simple: do not be afraid to try. Unlike pharmaceutical medications, giving the wrong homeopathic remedy does not cause an adverse reaction. There is no danger in starting, no risk of harm from getting it wrong, and every chance of getting it beautifully right.

She also speaks to the freedom that comes with being prepared. When the family travels to remote areas, Jasmin packs a small homeopathic kit and Jane Owen’s booklet, and that is enough. No internet connection required, no long list of medications, no anxiety about what to do if something comes up. That sense of preparedness, she says, changes the energy of the whole trip.

Most of all, Jasmin wants mothers to trust themselves. Women have been the healers in their families and communities for a very long time. Homeopathy, she believes, is one of the tools that helps reclaim that confidence, and in her experience, it has brought her family closer together in the process.
