What is Homeopathy?

What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a safe, gentle and effective healing art which has been successfully practised around the world for over 200 years. It makes use of various remedies to stimulate the body’s natural ability to heal itself and focuses on treating the whole person, not the disease.

Homeopathy may be used to treat adults, children and animals of all ages, for various physical, mental and emotional concerns – whether they are recent concerns or have been with them for many years.

How does Homeopathy work?

Homeopathy works on the principle of “like cures like.” This means that a substance which can produce symptoms in a healthy person, will be able to cure a sick person presenting with similar symptoms.

What can I expect during a consultation?

In homeopathy, the focus is on treating the person, not the disease. This means that you will be asked a variety of questions to assist the homeopath in forming a complete picture of your emotional, mental and physical state of health. These questions may focus on the stressors in your life, any particular fears, likes or dislikes you may have, as well as covering any other areas of your life which may significantly affect your being.

You will also need to advise of any medication or supplements you are taking, as well as supplying information about your personal and family medical history. In order to gather this amount of information, the initial consultation needs to be between 1 and 1 ½  hours long. All client information is kept strictly confidential. After the consultation, you will be given a homeopathic remedy to take in either liquid or pill form, along with instructions on how often this remedy needs to be taken.

What can I expect after taking my remedy? Are there side effects?

Due to the minute, non-toxic doses of homeopathic remedies, there are none of the serious side effects which are often associated with conventional medicine. Some people, however, may experience a brief return of past symptoms after taking homeopathic remedies, as the body goes through the healing process. This is usually short lived and self-limiting.

When should I have a follow-up?

It is important to schedule a follow-up consultation, to review your healing progress and assess whether any adjustments need to be made to your remedy and/or dose. Follow-up appointments last for 30 to 45 minutes and are usually scheduled 2-4 weeks after your initial consultation.

How can I be sure homeopathy works?

There is a 200 year history of case reports on the successful use of homeopathy, as well as many placebo-controlled clinical trials to prove that homeopathy works.

Homeopathy does not have any contra-indications, so why not try this gentle, effective healing art for yourself and be your own judge?

When should I take my remedy?

It’s best to take your remedy on a “clean” tongue, i.e. do not eat/drink/brush teeth for at least 15 minutes before and after taking your remedy. Some people find it’s easiest to take just before going to bed. Also try to avoid coffee, camphor, eucalyptus and mint (many toothpastes contain mint), as these may anti-dote your remedy. If you’re taking the pillules, let it dissolve under your tongue. If you’re using the liquid remedies, just drop a couple of drops under your tongue.

Where should I store my remedy?

Keep your remedy in a dark place, away from sunlight and heat as well as electronic devices. Also ensure that it’s not stored along with any strong-smelling substances such as camphor, eucalyptus or mint.
